The smartModule SM855 is a computer on module (COM), which integrates all standard PC-features on an tiny component of 117mm x 70mm x 15mm (LxDxH). It is based on Intel® Celeron® M or Intel® Pentium® M processors with a clock speed of 600-1800MHz and uses the Intel® 855GME with 400MHz FSB and Intel® ICH4. The main memory can be fitted individually with SODIMM-200 components from 256 MB to 1024 MB of DDR RAM. CPU and memory are mounted exchangeable, but mechanically protected against vibrations and shocks. The SM855 uses the Intel® Extreme Graphic video controller and supports DirectX 9 compatibility with 64MB VRAM UMA for VGA-CRT and DVO/LVDS. The module further includes six USB V2.0 ports, 100/10-Base-T Ethernet LAN, an AC97 V2.3 compatible sound interface, and SPDif 5.1 sound system stereo 6ch output and 2ch input. In addition, a hardware monitor, Watchdog, SM855Bus with PCI and LPC, heat spreader, all necessary power supplies and advanced ACPI power management functions are integrated. The module is supplied by voltages of 5V and 3.3V. It runs on all common operating systems like Windows XP, QNX, Linux, etc. It operates at a standard temperature range of 20°C to +60°C, but operates with a lower clock rate also in the extended temperature range of 40°C to +70°C. The smartDesign ensures the thermal connection so that the computer module can be integrated optimally in the housing of the application. Designed for low power consumption between 10 watt and 25 watt, the SM855 is an ideal solution for battery driven systems. The PC module is ideally suited for applications in the areas of navigation, telecommunications, computer periphery, medical and measurement technologies, the aerospace industry, automotive electronics, and in internet terminals.
